Frances Hamilton was the daughter of Sir James Russell, Governor of Nevis. She married firstly Sir William Stapleton, 3rd Bt. son of the Governor of the Leeward Islands, and her second marriage to Colonel Walter Hamilton, a later Governor of the Leeward Islands. She used monies from sugar plantation estates in the Leeward Islands to buy estates in England, including in Wexham and Stoke Place in Stoke Poges. She died in 1746.
