John C Turner Baylis House Stoke Poges - Funeral Hatchment St Giles' church Stoke Poges

Sir John Critchloe Turner of Castle Carleton, Lincolshire was brought up in Exton, Rutland where his father was the vicar. In 1779 he married Anne, only daughter and heiress of William Cramlington of Newcastle-on-Tyne. In 1785 he became Sheriff of Cambridge and Huntingdon. He was Agent to the Greenwich Hospital estates in the Northern counties which the Duke of Leeds – Osborne family had an interest. The Osborne family owned Baylis estate in Stoke Poges. In Turner’s will his residence is shown as Baylis and Wimpole Street, London. He died in 1813, age 68.

Heraldry:  Dexter background black. Ermine on a cross sable four millrinds argent (Turner). In pretence: Azure two bars argent, on a chief argent three roundels azure (Cramlington). Crest: A lion statant guardant argent holding in its dester: paw a millrind sable   Mantling: Gules and argent
